LaVonne “Voni” R. Van Veghel gently drifted away on February 24, 2025, with two of her loving sons by her side, while her youngest son awaited her arrival to heaven. Born on December 14, 1959, in Gallup, NM, little Voni spent her days frolicking outdoors and tending to her family's bean farm. The family then embarked on an adventure to Albuquerque, NM, and later settled in Truth or Consequences, NM, where she lived for twenty-two years, basking by the Lake and meeting new friends while working as a bartender. One of these new friends would end up being the love of her life, Tom, and they tied the knot in 1989. The couple eventually relocated to Sonora, TX, where they shared many adventures until the end of their days.
Voni found immense joy in spending time with her extended family and numerous friends, both human and animal. She possessed a beautiful heart and kind soul that attracted many. Known for her warm smile and willingness to share a drink with anyone she encountered, these moments exemplified the loving and generous spirit that Voni maintained throughout her life.
She is preceded in death by her father Daryl Olson, her mother Barbara Lasky, her brother Carl Dewayne, her husband Tom Van Veghel, and her son Tommy Homra.
She is survived by her stepfather Gene Lasky of Sonora TX, brother Gene “Hoppy” Olson of Deming NM, sister Karrie Doherty of Mena AR, sons Christopher Olson and wife Sara of Ruidoso, NM, Tyrel Homra, and wife Megan of Arvada CO, and grandchildren Cheyenne, Tristan, and Rebecca.
A celebration of Voni’s life will be held on Saturday, March 8, 2025, from 2:00pm to 4:00pm at 214 East Main Street in Sonora Texas.
