Glen Richardson

December 2, 1925 — October 4, 2016

Glen Clay Richardson went to be with the Lord and was reunited with loved ones October 4, 2016. He was born to Verlew and Esther Richardson on December 2, 1925 in Sonora, Texas. Glen was raised in Sonora and graduated from Sonora High. He then enrolled at The Agricultural and Mechanical College of Texas. He was a member of the Corps of Cadets, Aggie Band & Texas A&M track and field team, where he was the Southwest Conference high jump champion. One of his favorite memories was being a member of the Aggie Livestock Judging Team. Glen enlisted in the United States Navy, were he fought for his country in WWII. Upon returning from the war, Glen re-enrolled and graduated from Texas A&M with a degree in Animal Husbandry. Glen cherished his time at A&M and the lifelong friendships he made there. In 1950, while teaching classes at the Texas A&M Adjunct campus in Junction, Glen began ranching in Edwards County. In 1954, Glen married the love of his life, Rosalie Friend. Twelve months later they were blessed with twin sons, Wade & Wesley. Over the next half century Glen spent each day doing what he loved, raising a family, and continually perfecting his Hereford cattle and Angora goat herds. For the last 40 years he especially enjoyed marketing Champion F-1 Braford Heifers throughout select sales in Texas. Glen and Rosalie cherished their many lifelong friendships. Everyone was welcome at their Rocksprings Ranch and if you were there long you might leave with a nickname. For many years, they hosted an annual Fourth of July weekend on their ranch. Glen loved by example. His and Rosalie’s lives were centered around their two sons, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Through the years Glen enjoyed being a member of the Board of Trustees of the Federal Land Bank and Sonora Bank. He was also a lifelong member of the Sonora United Methodist Church and was a member of the Masonic Lodge, Sheep and Goat Raisers Association, and Texas & Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association. Glen was preceeded in death by his parents, Verlew and Esther Richardson, his brother O.L. Richardson Jr., his sons Wade and Wesley Richardson, his grandson Kyle Richardson and his sister-in-law Carol Whitehead. He is survived by his loving wife and forever partner, Rosalie Friend Richardson, his daughter-in-law, Jane Richardson, grandson Clay Richardson and his wife Andie and their children West and Sailor, his granddaughter Codi Kingman and her husband Taylor and their children Kyle, Brynn & Walker, his brother-in-law Tuffy Whitehead, his nieces Clay Sewalt and her husband Rusty and their daughter Remi, his niece Amy Perry and her husband Jim and their children Cole, Reese and Alex and nephews and niece Mike Richardson, Dan Richardson and Patty Strauch Pallbearers are: Reynoldo Romo, John Weston, David Wallace, Keith Wallace, Joe Eustace, Curry Campbell, Will Allison, Rusty Sewalt, Jim Perry, Rusty Gardner & Dan Davidson. Honorary pallbearers are: Al Elliot, Doyle Morgan, Bill Savell, Warren Hemphill, Eddie Sawyer, Albert Ward, Ronnie Cox, Carl Cloudt, Joe David Ross, Pierce Miller, Bill Gosney, Clay Cade, Joe Lane, Cole Perry, Reese Perry & all of his stock show and experiment station friends. The family wishes to sincerely thank Juanita Barrera, Angie Ramirez, Linda Weatherly and Mariam Vargo for their loving care. Memorials may be made to the West Texas Boys Ranch or the charity of your choice.
