Esperanza “Espy” Sanchez September 2, 1936 – October 30, 2022 Esperanza “Espy” Chavez Sanchez went to Heaven on October 30, 2022. She passed away peacefully in her long-time home surrounded by her family. She died at the age of 86 and lived a long, spiritual, and joyous life. She was a beloved mother, grandmother, friend, and mentor to many. She was born to Lupe and Carolina Chavez in Sonora, Texas on September 2, 1936. She was born a twin and had three siblings. She was raised in the neighborhood known as Sinaloa. Sinaloa was a common place for living and gathering for many in the Mexican community in Sonora. Espy was often described as one of the most beautiful young women to come from Sonora. She was crowned queen of Fiestas Patrias. Espy married Francisco “Frank” Sanchez in 1958 who was also from Sonora. She and her husband first lived in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina while he was in the U. S. Air Force. They later moved to San Angelo in 1960 and began their family life there. Espy attended schools in Sonora. After schooling she received training and worked as a beautician. She also worked as a representative for World Book Encyclopedia. She later decided to dedicate her time to her home and family. She was a devoted mother to her children and active in their schooling and sports programs. Espy was a devout catholic. She was active at St. Joseph’s church for many decades. She volunteered for many activities and served as an instructor in the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) program. She held many prayer meetings in her home. Her family and social life was often centered at the church. Espy had an excellent memory that she maintained all her life. She was a wonderful storyteller, and many looked to her as a person who preserved and kept stories and history alive for those from Sonora. Even into her elder life, she continued to visit Sonora attending church events, social events and funerals. Espy was the life of the party. She was very lively and talkative. She always dressed beautifully. She loved to dance and was very graceful when she did. She displayed her inner and outer beauty always. Espy is survived by her spouse Frank Sanchez. They were married almost 65 years. She is also survived by her two sons, Paul Sanchez and Mark Sanchez of San Angelo. Espy leaves behind six grandchildren, Joseph Paul Sanchez, Alyssa Sanchez, Jennifer Nicole Sanchez, Arianna Sanchez, Angelina Sanchez, and Andy Pennington. She also leaves behind two great grandchildren, Jorge Simental and Daniela Moran. Jorge was lovingly raised by his great- grandparents and lived with them in their home until her passing. Her siblings include her twin Consuelo “Connie” Maskill and her spouse Serafin, Elvira Garcia and her husband Joe Garcia (deceased), and Francisco “Pancho” Andrade (deceased) . She also has many nephews and nieces whom she loved dearly. Pallbearers will be Corby Maskill, Ray Maskill, Leroy Chavarria, Andy Pennington, Joseph Paul Sanchez, and Louie A. Perez. Honorary Pallbearers will be Freddie Chavarria, Stevie Chavarria, Chris Chavarria and Corby Maskill, Jr. Services are entrusted to Love Funeral Home of Sonora, Texas. Viewing and rosary will be on Sunday, November 6, 2022 at 6:00 PM at Love funeral home. The celebration of her life and funeral service will be held at St. Ann’s Parish in Sonora, Texas, on Monday, November 7, 2022, at 11:00 AM. Graveside service and interment will be held at the Sonora Cemetery. The family would like to thank St. Gabriel’s Hospice for their gentle care and service.
