Sonora- Edward “Eddie” Farrell Smith went be with the Lord on February 7, 2022. He passed away peacefully in his sleep, at is home in Sonora, Texas. A memorial service will be held at the Church of Christ on Wednesday, February 9, 2022 at 11: 00 a.m. The Sonora Church of Christ. Eddie was born on July 2,1935 in San Angelo, Texas to George E (Bud) & Gretta Smith. He grew up in Sonora and spent most of his time as a young boy on the ranch with his Uncle Jap and Aunt Nell Homan. As an adult, Eddie continued in the family tradition of ranching. He retired from ranching in 2011 but ranching was in his blood and he spoke of his fond, ranching memories quite often. Eddie is a lifelong resident of Sonora and has many friends in the community. Eddie was a proud Bronco. Everyone who knew him, has heard all his Bronco football stories! Eddie met and married the love of his life and life partner, Venetta Webster, on June 23, 1962. Together they built a life in Sonora and raised their 3 children. Eddie managed the Twin Oaks Motel for many years but work and ranching didn’t stop him from doing the things he truly enjoyed! Eddie made time for things he loved like fishing, flying his plane, camping, traveling, his friends, family, and his church family. Eddie was preceded in many years ago by his parents and most recently by his sister Beverly Howard of Sonora. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Venetta and their 3 children, Jady Duray Smith and wife Celia of Midland, Daphney Kay Adams and husband Stanley of Sonora, and Edward DeVoe Smith and wife Melanie of Sonora. He is also survived by a very special sister-in-law, whom he loved as a sister, Loretta Webster of Sonora. Eddie had 8 grandchildren who he truly loved and enjoyed. Micah Liggett and husband Micah of Jensen Beach, FL, Jacob Adams and wife Kristin of Carlsbad, NM, Lauren Bates and Husband Colby of Sonora, Morgan McWilliams and husband Cannon of Big Spring, Logan Smith and fiancé Ryan Pannell of San Antonio, Braden Adams of Sonora, and Joshua and Heather Smith. Eddie and Venetta have been blessed with 8 great-grandchildren as well: Kaylea, Zoe, Jacob, Brieley, Jovi, Bliss, Rinn, and Jett, as well as 3 nieces and 2 nephews he cared for very much. Eddie was the best grandfather in the world. One of his greatest joys was following his kids, grandkids, and great-grandkids in all of their endeavors. He loved to ride the “horsies” with his grandchildren. Every grandchild has ridden the “horsies” with Grandpa. He took the boys to the ranch in the morning and worked hard, then he came home and played tea party with the girls. Eddie was the roughest man with the most gentle heart. He will be missed greatly and by many!
