Burnell Burkett Gulley

December 14, 1924 — September 13, 2016

Loving mother, wife, and friend, Burnell Burkett Gulley, also known to many who loved her as NeeNaw, made her way through this life to reside at her heavenly address with our Lord and Savior on Tuesday, Sept.13, 2016. Burnell was 91 years old. Born to Ezra David Burkett and Ruby Fisher Burkett on Dec.14, 1924 in Winters, Texas. Burnell was the middle of 3 children, along with older sister Marie Burkett Allen and younger sister Hattie Belle Bishop. Burnell attended Winters High School but as so many of her generation did, left school to support the WW II effort as a welder in Boerne, Texas. Burnell married James Effinger Gulley in 1945 in Ballinger, Texas while he was serving in the U.S. Army. This marriage was blessed with three children; Vicky Childress, Sherry Sipes and husband Mike, and Jim Gulley and wife Rhonda. NeeNaw was further blessed with 9 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. Burnell's family wish to extend special thanks to Sutton County EMS and the staff of Hudspeth Hospital for the professional and loving care given their mother. Also, grateful appreciation to the kind custodians of Burnell's personal needs in her last days, Maria and T. C. Galindo. We love you as she did. Funeral graveside service will be Friday, Sept.16, 2016 at 2:00 pm in the Sonora Cemetary. Arrangements under guidance of Love Funeral Home in Sonora, Texas.
