Arturo Morin Gandar

January 31, 1946 — May 8, 2022

Born in Sonora, Texas, on January 31, 1946, Arturo Morin Gandar, Sr. was called home to the Father's House on May 8, 2022, at the age of 76. He is preceded in death by his infant child, Jerry Gandar; parents, Francisco and Oralia Morin Gandar; grandparents, Francisco and Florencia Morin; sister, Delia G. Duran; brother, Ramiro Gandar; beloved aunts, Elida MArtinez and Olivia Pruneda. Arturo is loved and will be missed by his wife of 56 years, Edwina Mata Gandar; children, Arturo M. Gandar Jr., of San Antonio, TX; Jannette G. Gonzales and husband, Billy; and Joe David "Joey" Gandar and wife, Rachel, of San Angelo Texas. Arturo took great pride and delight in his 7 grandchildren, Albert Gandar Borrego, Cynthia Gaile Luna, Hillary Denise Adair (Kyle), Isiah Gandar, Jacob William Gonzales (Hannah), Bailey Catherine Gonzales and Ava Grace Gandar. He was also blessed with 8 great-grandchildren, Dailen Isiah, Aiden Angel, David Angel, Noah Michael, Sadee Madison and Matthew Elias Luna; and Charlotte Rose and Allison Jeanine Adair. He is also survived by his siblings, Frank Gandar of Houston, Texas; Estella Gandar and Beatrice Ramirez of Fort Worth, Texas; and Enrique Gandar of Arlington, Texas; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Also missing her Grandpo will be the house pet child, Precious Francis Gandar. Arturo was truly beloved by many. He enjoyed nothing more than having his family around him, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who were so gentle and loving with him. As soon as he saw the kids, he would say, "Chulo Mijo. Chula Mija." They were his joy. From a very young age, he was a hard worker, having spent most of his working years at Sonora Wool & Mohair Company. His strong work ethic was an inspiration to his children. He was a provider for his family, and he was old school in the sense that payday meant he handed his check to Edwina to take care of the bills and kids, with a "Give me $10 for a 6-pack." Sweet memories. Everyone has a story about Arturo, a man with a great sense of humor. He had nicknames for everyone, and it's safe to say that he had no filter whatsoever. His nursing home caregivers could definitely attest to this, yet they very much loved their Mr. Gandar. He seemed to run the place. In 2018, after an "escape" from a nursing home in San Angelo, he was probably given his greatest honor by his then 6 year-old granddaughter, Ava Grace, when she proclaimed her Grandpo a "Gangsta!" Arturo was definitely a one-of-a-kind. He was a generous man, there for his friends and family, and always providing in any way he could when they came to him in need. No seemed to be absent from his vocabulary. The most difficult moments for Arturo came when he began to just not be himself. He was diagnosed with Dementia, which very much began to affect him in a very difficult way. After a few weeks at Shannon Hospital in San Angelo, he surprisingly woke up and told Edwina that he wanted to go home to Sonora. It was in the comfort of his house, and surrounded by his family, that Arturo passed away, with a need for no more hospitals. No more Dementia. The family is grateful to the staff at Schleicher County Nursing Home, who lovingly cared for him, for catering to him and responding to him with compassion and sense of humor. The wonderful doctors and nurses at Shannon Medical Center's 3rd Floor ICU and Fourth Floor-South, were truly servant-hearted healers, always generous with their kindness, compassion and time. The family is grateful to them. The family is also grateful to West Texas Rehabilitation Center's Hospice of San Angelo. Serving as pallbearers would will be his grandsons, Albert Gandar Borrego, Isiah Gandar and Jacob William Gonzales; great-grandsons, Dailen Isiah, Aiden Angel and David Angel Luna. Honorary Pallbearers will be great-grandson, Noah Michael Luna, and great-granddaughter, Ava Grace Gandar. Visitation will be held at Love Funeral Home, 409 E. 2nd Street, Sonora, Texas, 76950, from 9 a.m. until 9 p.m. on TUESDAY, MAY 10, 2022, with a Rosary to be recited at 7 p.m. Funeral Procession will depart the Funeral Home at 9:30 a.m. on WEDNESDAY, MAY 11, 2022, for a 10 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Ann Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Sonora Cemetery.
